Stepin Lug, Park in Zvezdara district of Belgrade, Serbia
Stepin Lug is a forest park in the Zvezdara district that forms part of a larger woodland complex with various tree species including cedar, birch, and oak. The area includes memorial sites and features rolling wooded hills mixed with natural clearings.
The park was created in 1972 and houses a memorial house dedicated to vojvoda Stepa Stepanović, a key Serbian military leader. The site documents his role in important battles of the region's past.
The forest serves as a retreat where people find peace in the city and where locals regularly walk and observe birds. The name connects to Serbian military history and many visitors see the area as a place of remembrance today.
The park features a developed 5 kilometer path for hikers and joggers that runs through different sections of the woodland. The paths are generally well-maintained and the area is easily accessible during daytime hours.
The woodland is home to various wild animals including hares, roe deer, and wild boar that survive in this urban setting. These animal populations remain relatively stable despite the park being surrounded by the city.
