Kovilje Monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Ivanjica, Serbia
The monastery complex includes two churches, with one built into a cave dedicated to Archangel Gabriel and another dedicated to Saint Nicholas.
The monastery, established in 1101, underwent significant reconstruction in 1644 by Archbishop Gavrilo Rašković who found the structure in neglected condition.
The Church of Saint Nicholas contains 13th-century frescoes depicting saints, representing medieval Serbian religious art and architectural traditions.
Visitors need to contact the monastery administration in advance to arrange tours and learn about the religious artifacts and manuscripts stored within.
The monastery houses an ascetic cave church built directly into rock formations, combining natural geological features with religious architecture.
