Safronovsky burial ground

Safronovsky burial ground is an archaeological site with around 50 mounds arranged in linear rows, surrounded by upright stone monuments. Some of these stones still stand tall today and display carefully executed carvings on their surfaces.

This burial ground was created around 2500 to 3000 years ago by the Tagar people. Early scientific investigations took place in 1722 and contributed greatly to understanding this ancient population.

The stone monuments here display carved symbols connected to shamanic traditions and ancient tribal beliefs. These carvings offer visitors a window into the spiritual world of the people who once lived in this region.

The burial ground is located in a remote area best reached by private vehicle, and you should bring good navigation skills with you. The site has minimal signage, so it is helpful to get local advice before making the journey.

Four of the largest mounds display stones with unusual shapes, originally much larger than the monuments visible today. These differences suggest that the original scale of this site changed over the centuries through natural processes.
