Big Salabyk mound, Archaeological monument in Salbyk Valley, Russia

The Big Salbyk mound features a square perimeter of 70 meters marked by massive sandstone plates weighing between 50 and 70 tons each.

Russian scientist Gerard Friedrich Miller conducted the first scientific documentation of the burial mound during his First Academic Expedition in 1739.

The ancient burial site served as both a temple and an astronomical observatory, with stone alignments indicating the paths of the Sun and Moon.

The archaeological museum Ancient Mounds of Salbyk Steppe offers guided tours and maintains facilities for visitors near the archaeological site.

The burial complex includes 23 standing stones reaching heights of 6 meters, positioned along the corners and sides of the stone enclosure.
