Salavat Yulayev Garden, Ufa, Regional cultural heritage site in central Ufa, Russia
Salavat Yulayev Garden is a hillside park in central Ufa, Russia, overlooking the Belaya River and the surrounding plains. Paved paths connect several entry points and run through open lawns and planted areas across the grounds.
The park took on its current form and name after a large bronze statue honoring the Bashkir national hero Salavat Yulayev was installed in 1967. Before that, the hillside had already been used as a green space, but the monument gave it a new identity.
The garden sits on a hillside above the Belaya River and draws locals who come to walk and enjoy the view. On public holidays, families and groups from across the Bashkortostan region gather here to celebrate together.
The park can be reached from several sides, and the paved paths are easy to walk for most visitors. It is worth setting aside some time to take in the view over the river from the upper part of the grounds.
The bronze statue that defines the park rests on only 3 contact points with the ground despite its enormous weight. This engineering approach was unusual for a mounted figure of this size and was rarely used in the Soviet Union at the time it was built.
