Сосновый Лес, Protected natural area in Lipetsk, Russia
Sosnovyy Les is a protected forest area in Lipetsk that spans approximately 11 hectares across two districts of the city. Pine trees form the main forest composition, mixed with maple, chestnut, birch, and apple trees throughout the terrain.
Before the Russian Revolution, the area contained an extensive pine forest that was partially cleared for building summer residences. The forest later received protected status to preserve its ecological value and natural composition.
The forest serves as a natural laboratory for scientists studying artificial basin development in ravines while supporting local wildlife observation activities.
Walking paths and children's playgrounds are spread throughout the area along with sports equipment for various ages. In winter, cross-country skiing trails become available for visitors seeking seasonal activities.
The Lipovka River runs through the forest, creating conditions that support diverse bird populations including kingfishers, fieldfares, and mallards. This water source contributes significantly to the overall biodiversity of the protected area.
