Death Tower, Administrative building in Perm, Russia
The building known as the Death Tower is a multi-story administrative structure in Perm with a three-tiered corner section that rises above Komsomolskaya Square. The structure stands at the intersection of Heroes Khasan Street and Komsomolsky Avenue and currently houses the Perm Territory Internal Affairs Department.
Construction was completed in 1952 and the building was originally intended to serve as the main headquarters for Perm University. Plans changed and it was repurposed to become the headquarters for internal affairs authorities.
Local stories connect the structure with tales of underground passages leading to the former NKVD prison and Egoshikha burial ground. These narratives persist in city folklore, though the present use remains purely administrative.
The building now serves as a regional authority headquarters and remains accessible to the public only for administrative purposes. Visitors can view the exterior from the square, especially the prominent corner structure.
The name Death Tower may come from a film shown at a nearby summer cinema during construction in the early 1950s. This connection remains one possible explanation for the unusual designation of the building.
