State Museum of Theatre and Music, St. Petersburg, Performance arts museum in central Saint Petersburg, Russia
The State Museum of Theatre and Music occupies the former Imperial Theatres Management building, designed by architect Carlo Rossi in the 19th century.
Established in 1918 by Anatoly Lunacharsky, the museum preserves theatrical traditions through an extensive collection of over 500,000 artifacts from Russian performing arts.
The museum displays costumes from early performances, ballet shoes through time, portraits of actors, theatre designs, manuscripts, and props from the Mariinsky Theatre.
Located at 6 Ostrovskogo Square, the museum welcomes visitors Thursday through Monday from 11:00 to 19:00 and Wednesday from 13:00 to 20:00, with closures on Tuesdays.
The institution includes four branches across Saint Petersburg, including the Museum of Music in Sheremetev Palace with one of the largest musical instrument collections worldwide.
