Yuryev Kamen, mountain in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia
Yuryev Kamen is a protected mountain in Sverdlovsk Oblast that rises to approximately 1500 meters with exposed rocky peaks and rugged slopes. Small lakes scatter across the terrain and fill with snowmelt water during spring and early summer seasons.
The mountain region was part of the Perm Governorate during the Russian Empire era, administratively part of Verkhoturye uyezd. The area came under Russian control during the period when settlements expanded into the Ural Mountains.
Conifer and birch forests cover the lower slopes up to around 1000 meters, where they give way to low-growing alpine tundra with mosses and hardy plants.
The terrain is steep and the altitude makes physical demands on visitors, so good fitness and proper mountain gear are necessary for any visit. Weather conditions can change rapidly at higher elevations, making sturdy boots and protective clothing essential.
The mountain is composed of pyroxenite and dunite rock formations from the lower and middle Paleozoic period, giving it geological distinctiveness. The Kosva River originates from the slopes, beginning its journey through the surrounding terrain.
