Cherkizovsky Pond, stuwmeer in Rusland
Cherkizovsky Pond is a reservoir in the Preobrazhenskoye District with an elongated, winding shape extending about 800 meters long and roughly 50 meters wide. The shoreline features walking paths, benches, green spaces, and a distinctive arched pedestrian bridge connecting both banks.
The water body was created in the 14th century when farmers dammed the Sosenka stream to form the pond. The nearby church was built in 1690 to replace a wooden structure from 1370 that had burned down.
The Church of the Prophet Elijah next to the pond dates to 1690 and anchors the spiritual character of the area. The location has maintained its connection to rural heritage despite urban expansion around it.
The pond is accessible by metro stations Cherkizovskaya and Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad, with trolleybus line 41 serving the area regularly. Parking is available nearby, particularly along the Shitova embankment walking distance from the park.
An abandoned cinema built in 1964 stands nearby as a relic of a vanished era of entertainment. The pond's reconstruction from 2008 to 2014 brought new stone edging to the banks and demonstrated the effort to preserve this historic spot within the modern city.
