Millennium of Yaroslavl Monument, Bronze and granite monument at Strelka Park, Yaroslavl, Russia.
The Millennium of Yaroslavl Monument is a grand bronze and granite work rising in Strelka Park where two rivers meet. A granite column over 20 meters tall is topped with a gilded double-headed eagle and surrounded by five life-sized bronze figures and detailed reliefs at its base.
The monument was unveiled in September 2010, marking 1000 years since Prince Yaroslav the Wise founded the city on the Volga River. Its location at the meeting of two rivers refers to the original site where the city grew from the earliest times.
Five bronze figures surrounding the base show different people who shape Russian society: a prince, a mother, a warrior, a priest, and an ordinary citizen. They illustrate how different people in the city live together and contribute to community life.
The monument stands in Strelka Park and is easy to reach on foot via broad walkways that offer good views of the entire structure. The park has several levels, so it is worth allowing time to explore and enjoy different vantage points of the monument.
The base is decorated with ten reliefs showing highlights from the city's story, including that Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, came from this region. These details tell stories of great moments in the city and connect local achievements with national history.
