The bronze statue of Vasily Alekseyev stands 5.6 meters tall near the Sports Palace, depicting the weightlifter with raised arms and a barbell at the base.

The monument, unveiled on December 26, 2014, honors the two-time Olympic champion and eight-time world champion who established 80 world records in weightlifting.

The monument represents the athletic legacy of Shakhty, where the Sports School No. 15 and a main avenue also carry the name of this distinguished athlete.

The construction of this memorial required over six million rubles, funded through worldwide donations with substantial support from the Russian Weightlifting Federation.

Dmitry Lyndin from Rostov created the monument after winning a competition among eight sculptors, taking two years to complete the bronze and granite structure.
