Balay Volkov-Remy

Balay Volkov-Remy is a two-story mansion with four Ionic columns supporting a triangular pediment, located at Petrovsky Street 103A. Today the structure houses various retail shops that remain accessible to visitors.

The mansion was built in the first half of the 19th century for Court Advisor Stepan Stepanovich Volkov, who served on the Prisoners Committee in Taganrog. It was designed from the start as a private residence for a prominent family.

The building has served multiple communities as a social gathering space over the decades. Artists and theater audiences used its rooms for meetings and cultural events.

The site is centrally located and remains easily accessible to pedestrians wanting to examine the architecture and details. Visitors should note that the interior consists mainly of retail spaces that can be explored during regular business hours.

In the courtyard stood one of the city's largest theater buildings around 1912, called Russia with distinctive proportions. This theater was a notable cultural gathering spot for locals during that period.
