House of Lakiyerov

The House of Lakiyerov is a two-story residential building with classical Russian features and decorative trim typical of the early 1800s. The facade displays curved moldings, small balconies, and window frames with ornamental details characteristic of wealthy homes from that era.

The building was constructed in 1830 for the merchant family Lakiyerov during a period when Taganrog was developing as a key port city on the Sea of Azov. The structure endured major political shifts in Russia and retained its original form throughout different historical periods.

The Lakiyerov family built this house as a statement of their merchant status, and the rooms reveal how wealthy families conducted daily life in early 19th-century Taganrog. The crafted details in woodwork and tilework show the skills local artisans possessed at that time.

The building sits on Frunze Street in central Taganrog near other historical sites, making it easy to include in a walking tour of the old city. Visit during daylight hours when the facade details are clearly visible and the surrounding streets are active.
