House of Averino

The House of Averino is a 19th century mansion on Grecheskaya Street in Taganrog that blends classical and baroque architectural features. Its facade displays rectangular windows, arched details, and a continuous cornice that frames the structure.

During the Russian Civil War in 1919, the mansion served as headquarters for Lieutenant General Denikin and hosted military leaders from Britain, Czechoslovakia, and Poland. This made it a strategic location during the crucial fighting of that period.

The building housed the Children's Music School No. 1 named after Tchaikovsky from 1944 to 2000, shaping music education for generations of local students. This role made it a significant center for musical training in the city.

The mansion is located at the intersection of Kommerchesky Lane and Grecheskaya Street 50 and is open to visitors as a protected regional cultural heritage site. The location is easy to find, and the building's exterior can be viewed from the street.

A courtyard balcony supported by four columns with metal railings reflects the architectural preferences of 19th-century Russian merchants. This detail shows the careful attention to decorative elements that was common in private residences of that era.
