October Square

October Square is a large public plaza in central Taganrog with an elongated oval layout that spans considerable distance. The open space accommodates foot traffic, vehicles, and various gatherings throughout the day.

The area began transforming from open land into a central city square around 1780. Later railway developments turned it into a major transportation hub connecting different parts of the city.

The square served as a bustling marketplace where regional merchants and traders conducted business throughout the late 1800s. This commercial function shaped how people used the space and what they saw when they gathered here.

The square is easily accessible from multiple directions since major roads and the railway station connect directly to it. Pedestrians and vehicles have several entry points, making navigation straightforward.

A well stood in the center of the square and was the main water source for residents during the early development of the city. This simple structure played a vital role in daily life long before modern water systems were built.
