The building was designed in 1873 by architect Pyotr Romanov and became connected to the Mardjani family, an influential Tatar scholarly and merchant family. After the October Revolution, the house changed hands several times, was designated a regional cultural monument in 2000, and suffered a fire in 2017.
The house is connected to the Mardjani family, including a notable Islamic scholar who shaped local religious life. Tatar architectural traditions appear in the decorative details of the facade and windows.
