Feodorovskaya Church, Orthodox church in Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Feodorovskaya Church is a two-story building within the Alexander Nevsky Lavra featuring separate sanctuaries dedicated to Saint Nicholas on the upper level and Feodor of Yaroslav below. An extension added later provides additional space for worship and commemoration.
Construction began in the mid-1700s following the architectural style popular during Peter the Great's era. The building was later expanded to serve growing needs for commemoration and worship.
The church continues to function as a place of worship where visitors can observe Orthodox services and the spiritual practices that have defined this space for generations.
The site sits within a larger religious complex, so it helps to take time understanding the layout and being respectful during active services. Visitors can move freely through the different levels to explore the various sacred spaces at their own pace.
After major restoration completed in 2017, the building returned to full use as both a functioning worship space and memorial site. Many visitors overlook how carefully the restoration team preserved original decorative elements and structural details from earlier centuries.
