Stenshuvud National Park, National park in Simrishamn Municipality, Sweden

Stenshuvud is a national park covering roughly 4 square kilometers, with a 97-meter hill rising above the Baltic Sea and surrounding flat land. The terrain combines forests, open areas, and coastal sections that create different landscapes within the park.

Archaeological digs found remains of a fortress from the 5th century on the hilltop, showing that people built defensive structures here in early times. The site reveals how this location was important for settlement and protection.

The name Stenshuvud comes from local legends about a giant living in the Giddastuan cave, showing how the landscape connects with traditional stories passed down by people here. Walking around, you notice how the place brings these old tales to life.

Access begins at the Naturum visitor center, where five hiking trails branch out into the park. The paths wind through woods and down to the beach, offering options for different lengths and fitness levels.

The park is home to rare species including hazel dormice, European tree frogs, and over 600 vascular plant species, with several orchid types growing throughout. This concentration of life makes it one of the region's most biodiverse natural areas.
