Göta Arkhuset, Residential complex near Medborgarplatsen, Stockholm, Sweden
Göta Arkhuset is a seven-story residential complex featuring a concrete facade in Södermalm. It combines apartments above with ground-floor retail spaces and incorporates a 50-meter ventilation tower serving the nearby tunnel system.
The site was previously marked as the Nederland quarter on Petrus Tillaeus' 1733 map and later held the Hotel Göteborg built in 1861. The current residential complex replaced these earlier structures as part of the area's transformation.
The structure integrates residential spaces with office facilities, representing the evolution of mixed-use architecture in Stockholm's urban development.
The complex features approximately 11,000 square meters of retail space on the ground floor with passages linking Medborgarplatsen to Högbergsgatan. Pedestrians can move through these connected walkways to navigate the neighborhood easily.
A 2011 renovation allowed the addition of 50 new residential units while preserving the existing commercial function. This adaptation shows how Stockholm's existing buildings are being reshaped to meet modern needs.
