Gängtappen, Modern building in Malmö, Sweden
Gängtappen is an office building in Malmö with a rectangular form and numerous glass windows spanning multiple floors. The structure has been completely renovated and now houses modern office spaces for various tenants.
The building was completed in 1958 as Sweden's first high-rise and originally served as headquarters for the Kockums company. When the company moved in 2009, the owner Wihlborgs took over the structure for renovation and new leasing purposes.
The building houses wall paintings and a mosaic by Stockholm artist Tor Hörlin that show different color themes across the floors. These artworks remain visible and shape how the interior spaces feel today.
The building is easy to access and designed to be accessible for visitors with mobility needs. Its central location in Malmö makes it convenient to reach by public transport and offers ample parking options.
The building marks a turning point in Swedish architectural history as the nation's first venture into vertical urban building. It showed that Malmö could grow upward like other major cities in Europe during that era.
