Sjömanstornet, Maritime monument tower in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Sjömanstornet is a tall residential tower with an observation deck in Gothenburg's harbor district with approximately 73 floors. The building combines residential units, office space, a restaurant, and a public observation platform accessible via elevators.
The tower was completed in the 2010s as the winner of an international architecture competition and marked a turning point in Gothenburg's harbor redevelopment. The project reflects the transformation of the former industrial waterfront into a modern residential neighborhood.
Since opening, the tower has become a gathering place where locals and visitors come together to experience the city from above. The public spaces are used for events and meetings, giving the harbor district a new focal point.
Access to the observation platform is via fast elevators that reach the top in just a few minutes. Plan your visit for clear days to get the best views of the harbor and surrounding areas.
The design team came from two firms: the American architects SOM and the Danish studio Entasis, representing a rare cross-border collaboration. This international partnership shaped the innovative character of the entire project.
