Sjösås gamla kyrka

Sjösås gamla kyrka is a medieval stone church in Braås featuring Gothic architecture and interior furnishings from the 18th century that represent traditional Swedish ecclesiastical design. The building sits beside Lake Örken and is surrounded by coniferous forests.

The church was built during medieval times and was temporarily abandoned in 1865 when a new church was constructed. Its importance grew again after Braås railway station opened nearby.

The cemetery surrounding the building displays wrought iron crosses from the 18th and 19th centuries that reflect how local families honored their dead over generations. These ornamental crosses show the craftsmanship of the region and shape the character of the place.

The church building is accessible from the outside and located in an easily reached spot near the lake. It is worth contacting the parish office in advance if you are interested in special events or guided tours.

The bell tower was built in 1931 based on an 18th-century design from Granhult, linking two different time periods. This shows how the community honored the historical form of an earlier church while adapting it for practical use.
