Örken

Örken is a lake in Kronoberg County that stretches through a rift valley from Braås to Ramkvilla, featuring numerous small islands scattered across its waters. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 38 meters (125 feet) and is surrounded by forested shores.

The lake was formed during the last ice age when glacial movement carved out a deep rift valley in the landscape. This ancient geological event shaped the long, narrow structure we see today.

The lake serves as a gathering place for the local community, where fishing and boating remain part of daily life along its shores.

The lake can be reached by car from Växjö or by following the Sverigeleden cycling route through the surrounding region. Parking areas and walking paths are available along the shores, allowing visitors to explore different viewpoints.

The eastern shore rises to around 250 meters (820 feet) above sea level, creating unusual elevation changes for lakes in this region. This dramatic topography makes the waterside landscape visually striking and quite different from flatter lakes elsewhere in Sweden.
