Såningskvinnan, Bronze sculpture in Brunnsparken, Sweden.
Saningskvinnan is a 7.5-meter (25 feet) tall bronze sculpture depicting a woman casting seeds with her right hand while holding a basket in her left. The monument combines bronze with a granite base and stands in Brunnsparken.
The work was created in 1883 by sculptor Per Hasselberg and cast in Paris. It marked the first female figure in Gothenburg's public art collection, creating a turning point in the city's artistic landscape.
The figure embodies the theme of sowing, which reflected the importance of agriculture in 19th century Swedish society. This subject of cultivation was central to regional identity and is visible in the woman's steady posture.
The monument sits in the center of Brunnsparken and is easy to reach on foot, with good access by local transportation. The location is open to the public and works well for walks at any time of day.
The sculpture underwent complete restoration in 2015, when specialized restorers cleaned the bronze surfaces thoroughly and renewed the water features with lions' heads. This renewal brought the monument back to its original appearance.
