Statue of Gustaaf II Adolf, Historical statue in Gustaf Adolfs Torg, Gothenburg, Sweden
The bronze statue of King Gustav II Adolf stands at the center of Gustaf Adolfs Torg, measuring several meters in height with a commanding pose.
The Swedish sculptor Bengt Erland Fogelberg completed this monument in 1854 after multiple casting attempts and transportation challenges across Europe.
This statue represents the first public artwork in Gothenburg and depicts the Swedish king who established the city in 1621.
The statue serves as a central reference point for orientation in Gothenburg, surrounded by administrative buildings and municipal offices.
The current statue is a recast from the original mold, as the first version was melted down for military purposes in 1942.
