Jordfallsbron

Jordfallsbron is a bascule bridge crossing the Göta älv river, allowing vessels up to 11 meters tall to pass underneath. The structure spans approximately 40 meters and carries traffic between two sides of the city across the waterway.

The bridge was completed in 1966 as a double bascule structure and marked an important step in regional infrastructure development. Its construction enabled improved road traffic between both sides while maintaining clear passage for waterborne vessels.

The bridge forms an integral part of Swedish maritime navigation, following established protocols for both commercial vessels and recreational watercraft throughout the year.

When crossing, keep in mind that the bridge lifts and lowers during ship passages, which can interrupt traffic flow. Pleasure craft owners should expect restrictions on weekday mornings from 7 to 9 and evenings from 4 to 6 during the period from April through September.

The bridge features a special communication system for maritime traffic, where ship captains can contact the bridge operator via VHF channel 9 or by phone. This procedure allows coordinated passages and keeps river traffic flowing smoothly.
