Vättlefjälls naturreservat, Nature reserve near Gothenburg, Sweden.
Vattlefjalls naturreservat is a nature reserve near Gothenburg featuring forests, lakes, and wetland areas. It offers numerous walking trails through varied terrain with elevations reaching around 150 meters.
During the 1700s this area was open heathland that locals regularly burned to create grazing grounds for livestock. Forest growth later transformed the landscape into what it is today.
The reserve holds traces of medieval settlements visible today through boundary stones, field patterns, and old road foundations scattered across the landscape. These remnants tell the story of how people shaped this land over centuries.
The reserve can be reached by taking tram 4 or 9 to Angered centrum, then bus 75 to Kryddnejlikegatan, followed by a short walk. The trails are well marked and visiting early in the morning or late afternoon gives you the best experience.
The lakes here undergo regular limestone treatment to prevent acidification and maintain healthy water ecosystems. This care program also naturally supports fish populations in the area.
