Kiruna City Hall

The circular structure features golden volumes emerging from its roof, with glass-lined offices surrounding a central atrium containing municipal departments and services.

Completed in 2018, the building marks the first phase of relocating the entire town of Kiruna due to ground instability from iron ore mining.

The building exhibits artworks from the Arctic region in its gallery and incorporates elements from the 1958 town hall, including the clock tower and door handles.

The circular design directs wind movement around the structure to prevent snow accumulation while maximizing daylight exposure during the long winter months.

The structure, known as The Crystal, connects to an underground mine extending 1,365 meters below, requiring the relocation of 18,000 residents and 3,000 buildings by 2040.
