Prešeren House, Writer's birthplace museum in Vrba, Slovenia
Prešeren House is a traditional Upper Carniolan farmhouse with wooden structures and a stone cellar in the village of Vrba. The building contains several rooms including a kitchen, living areas, and bedrooms, all furnished with objects related to the poet's life.
The house dates from the 16th century and was rebuilt after a fire in 1856. The stone cellar with its decorated portal from that early period is one of the few remaining original elements.
The house shows how a prosperous farming family lived in this region, with furnished rooms that reflect daily life in the 19th century. The interior gives a sense of what domestic life felt like then, from the kitchen to the bedrooms.
Visits work best if you arrange a guided tour in advance or arrive during regular opening hours. The house is small and personal, so plan to spend enough time exploring all the rooms thoroughly.
This was Slovenia's first residence of a notable figure converted into a museum, opening to the public in 1939. That conversion was pioneering and made it a leader in literary house museums in Slovenia.
