Hat Wanakon National Park, Marine national park in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand.
Hat Wanakon National Park is a marine protected area in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province with sandy beaches, coral reefs, and two islands offshore. The park covers approximately 38 square kilometers with varied habitats ranging from shallow coastal waters to deeper marine zones.
The area was originally a forestry and nursery station before becoming an official national park in 1992. This transformation marked a shift toward marine conservation and protection of the coastal environment.
The park is closely connected to the fishing communities that have lived from the sea for generations. Different zones protect both the environment and allow these traditional ways of life to continue.
The park is accessible from the main road by turning off after Khlong Hin Chuang village and following a short road to the entrance. Visit during the dry season when the sea is calmer and underwater visibility is better for exploring the coral reefs.
The deeper waters of the park contain the rare Acropora cytherea coral species, which grows at depths of around 8 to 10 meters. These corals thrive under specific conditions that make this location important for marine research and conservation.
