Wat Ao Noi, Buddhist temple in Ao Noi, Thailand
Wat Ao Noi is a Buddhist temple nestled at the base of a mountain with teak wood structures and a fish-filled pond at its entrance. The layout uses the natural slope and blends the surrounding landscape into its religious setting.
The temple developed over time into an important spiritual center in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. It has served successive generations through Buddhist ceremonies and maintained its role in the community.
Wooden carvings and murals inside show scenes from Buddha's life, while two nine-headed nagas stand guard at the entrance and define the space.
The temple is easy to reach from Ao Noi village with free entry and parking near the entrance. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes for the climb to the cave and allow time for the ascent.
A staircase decorated with shells and comprising about 265 steps leads from the temple up to Tham Phra Nawn cave. Inside the cave rest two reclining Buddha statues, both shown on their left side, a rare arrangement found elsewhere.
