Mae Moei National Park, parc national de Thaïlande
Mae Moei National Park is a large protected area in western Thailand that spreads across forested mountains and hillsides. The park is traversed by the Mae Moei River, which winds about 50 kilometers along the northern boundary and creates waterfalls and streams throughout the landscape.
The park was established to protect the natural environment and local wildlife while keeping forests healthy for future generations. It is part of a larger forest area that stretches across this region of Thailand and extends to the border with Myanmar.
The name Mae Moei comes from the river that marks the park's northern boundary. Local communities nearby farm the land traditionally and guide visitors through the area, making their daily practices and connection to nature visible to travelers.
The park is best visited during the cooler months when trails are dry and weather is pleasant. From May to October, roads can become muddy and flooded due to heavy rain, so plan your visit outside these months if possible.
The Mae U-Su Cave within the park features impressive stalactites and stalagmites with a stream flowing through it, creating a natural cool zone inside. This hidden cave is overlooked by many visitors even though it lies just a few kilometers from the main entrance.
