Sandawshin Zwegabin Pagoda

Sandawshin Zwegabin Pagoda crowns Mount Zwegabin at 722 meters, offering sweeping views across Kayin State's limestone ridges and river valleys. The temple complex contains multiple gilded structures and an active monastery where monks maintain their daily routines.

The pagoda was built generations ago and has served as a spiritual anchor for Kayin Buddhist communities since its founding. The monastery weathered periods of conflict and change, yet the resident monks have maintained unbroken religious practices over decades.

The site draws pilgrims from across the region who come to make offerings and seek blessings on important occasions. Local visitors often time their trips around Buddhist festivals and celebrations that fill the temple grounds with activity.

The climb follows a steep stairway taking two to four hours depending on your pace and fitness. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential, and you should plan to reach the top before midday to avoid afternoon heat.
