Win Sein Taw Ya, Reclining Buddha statue in Mudon Township, Myanmar

Win Sein Taw Ya is a massive reclining Buddha statue in Mudon Township, Myanmar, measuring 180 meters in length and rising 30 meters high. Its hollow body contains multiple interior levels and chambers that visitors can enter and explore.

Construction of this monumental statue began in 1992 as the vision of a monk seeking to create a major spiritual landmark for Myanmar. The project continued after his death in 2015 and was eventually completed.

The structure carries the name of the monk who envisioned it as a spiritual message for followers. Inside, visitors walk through chambers displaying murals and dioramas that show Buddhist life and teachings in visual form.

The best way to reach the site is by motorcycle taxi from Mawlamyine heading south along the main highway; the grounds are easy to navigate on foot. Wear comfortable walking shoes, as you will climb many internal staircases to explore the upper chambers.

The approach to the main structure is lined with hundreds of life-size monk figures, each showing different facial expressions and poses. This detailed arrangement creates a striking transition before reaching the central monument.
