Dongdamen Night Market, Night market in Hualien, Taiwan
Dongdamen Night Market is a market in Hualien, Taiwan, spanning three main pedestrian zones with over 400 vendors offering food, drinks, and merchandise from different Asian regions. The stalls are organized in designated rows and offer a wide range of specialties and everyday products.
The site was created in 2015 by consolidating four smaller markets on the grounds of the former Hualien train station. This consolidation brought together existing markets and created a centralized location for local vendors.
The Aboriginal Food Street showcases traditional dishes from Taiwan's indigenous peoples, where visitors can taste wild boar, bamboo rice, and locally prepared beverages. These foods reflect culinary traditions that have been passed down through generations in the region.
The market operates daily from 6 PM to midnight and is divided into different sections organized by cuisine type. It is advisable to bring enough cash since many vendors accept only payments in cash, and arriving early helps you find the best selection.
Musicians and performers regularly perform on the grounds and entertain visitors while they shop and eat. This live entertainment gives the place a lively, festive character that goes far beyond a simple shopping experience.
