Ardersier, Village in the Highlands, Scotland
Ardersier is a small village on the Moray Firth coast in the Scottish Highlands, sitting between the towns of Inverness and Nairn. It lies on a slight loop off the main road, which keeps it easy to reach while staying off the main flow of traffic.
The village has roots going back to at least the 19th century, when fishing shaped much of daily life along this stretch of coast. More recently, the construction of oil rigs in the area brought a wave of workers and a period of real change to the community.
The village has basic amenities including a small cafe, a pharmacy, and a few shops, so it is worth picking up supplies if you plan to walk the coast. The shore path toward Fort George is easy to follow on foot and gives a good sense of the local landscape.
A local resident put together a photo book covering the village from the late 19th century onward, with all proceeds going to the upkeep of the village hall. The book is sold in several local shops and offers a rare look at everyday life across generations.
