St Peter's Cathedral, Catholic cathedral in Falls Road district, Belfast, Northern Ireland
St Peter's Cathedral features two tall spires rising above its gray Scrabo sandstone structure, with a sculptured spandril depicting the Liberation of Peter at the entrance.
Construction of the cathedral began in 1860 on land donated by flour merchant Bernard Hughes, and the building opened its doors to worshippers in October 1866.
The cathedral maintains three distinct choirs: the Cathedral Choir, the Down & Connor Schola Cantorum for boys, and the Cathedral Girls' Choir.
The cathedral holds daily masses, confession services, and specific Sunday mass times, with live streaming available through the official website for remote participation.
Father Jeremiah Ryan McAuley, who designed the cathedral, received training as an architect before entering priesthood, influencing the building's Gothic Revival elements.
