Tre'r Ceiri, Iron Age contour fort in Gwynedd, Wales
The stone walls of this hilltop settlement stretch up to 4 meters high and enclose the remains of 150 stone houses spread across 2.5 hectares.
Built around 200 BC, the fort remained an active settlement during the Roman occupation until its abandonment in the fourth century AD.
The name translates to 'Town of Giants' in Welsh, referencing the massive stone constructions that early inhabitants discovered at this elevated location.
A marked footpath from the B4417 road west of Llanaelhaearn village leads visitors through a steady climb to reach this archaeological site.
The settlement contains an Early Bronze Age burial cairn at its summit, which remained preserved and respected throughout the later development of the fort.
