Stanmore tube station, London Underground station
Stanmore tube station is a surface terminal on the Jubilee Line located in the London Borough of Harrow. It has three platforms and serves commuters traveling daily to central London or around northwest London.
The first railway in Stanmore opened in 1890 to serve a country estate. The current station opened in 1932 as part of the Metropolitan Railway and later became part of the Bakerloo Line before transferring to the Jubilee Line in 1979 to handle growing passenger numbers.
The name Stanmore comes from the historic settlement that developed in this area over time. Today, the station serves as a daily meeting point for commuters and residents traveling between the quiet residential neighborhood and London's busy center.
The station connects well with bus routes 142, 324, H12, and the night bus N98, making it easy to reach by foot or public transport. Ramps provide step-free access to the platforms, and the station has toilets, a waiting area, and Wi-Fi for travelers.
The station's platforms have an unusual numbering system: they are numbered 2-1-3 rather than the typical 1-2-3 order. This quirk came about in 2011 when a third platform was added to accommodate growing passenger demand.
