River Cole, River system in West Midlands, England.
The River Cole is a river in the West Midlands of England, flowing northeast through Birmingham before meeting the River Blythe near Coleshill. Along the way it passes under canals, railway lines, and motorways, weaving through both urban and open green areas.
For many centuries the river powered mills used for grinding grain and other trades along its banks. One of these, Sarehole Mill in Moseley, still stands today as a protected building.
Local people use the riverbanks as routes connecting different areas of Birmingham and as places to walk and spend time outdoors. These paths form part of how neighborhoods along the water stay linked to their natural surroundings.
Footpaths run along much of the river and connect different parts of Birmingham, making it easy to walk from one section to another. No special equipment is needed, and the paths are generally flat and manageable for most people.
At Major's Green, the river flows beneath an aqueduct that carries the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal overhead. This is one of the few places in the region where two waterways cross at different levels, one passing directly over the other.
