St Benedict's Church, Byzantine Revival church in Bordesley, England
St Benedict's Church is a church in the Bordesley district of Birmingham, featuring distinctive red brick exterior with sandstone accents. The interior is organized by five-bay arcades with rounded arches that frame the north and south side aisles.
The building was designed by architects Nicol and Nicol and opened in 1909, followed by its formal consecration in 1910. These early years of the 20th century marked an important period of church development in this district.
The church houses an important mural depicting Christ in Majesty, created by artist Henry Holiday and positioned in the eastern apse. This artwork shapes the interior and draws visitors interested in religious visual art.
The church sits on Hob Moor Road, roughly 4 kilometers east of Birmingham's city center. Regular services and community activities occur throughout the year and welcome visitors who wish to attend worship or events.
The church's organ was built by CH Windridge between 1894 and 1895, predating the structure itself by over a decade. With three manuals, one pedal board, and 22 stops, this instrument displays the craftsmanship of an earlier era.
