Duddo Five Stones, Stone circle in Duddo, Northumberland, England.

Duddo Five Stones is a circle formed by five tall sandstone monoliths positioned on a hilltop in Northumberland. The arrangement opens views across rolling countryside toward the distant Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills.

The circle was raised around 4000 years ago during the Early Bronze Age as a ritual monument. Archaeological work has found evidence that the site originally contained seven stones rather than the five that remain.

Local legends describe the stones as people punished for breaking religious rules, showing how medieval storytellers reinterpreted this ancient place. These tales reveal how communities made sense of monuments they did not fully understand.

Access is through a footpath across private farmland starting from a parking area beside the B6354 road. The walk is straightforward and takes only a few minutes to reach the stones from the starting point.

Natural weathering has carved deep vertical grooves into the sandstone surfaces, creating distinct patterns on each stone. These erosion marks make every monolith visually unique and add texture that changes with light throughout the day.
