Garreg Lwyd, Mountain summit in Black Mountains, Wales
Garreg Lwyd is a mountain summit in the Black Mountains of Wales that rises to 616 meters. An ancient stone cairn stands about 15 meters northeast of the main triangulation point and can be reached from several hiking routes.
The summit earned recognition as a Hewitt classification peak, marking it as the westernmost 2000-foot summit in the South Wales range. This designation made it a notable goal for hill walkers seeking to complete collections of peaks across the region.
Local mountaineering groups maintain detailed documentation of 267 recorded ascents, contributing to a collection of ten published walking reports for future climbers.
The summit is accessible from the high-altitude A4069 road pass, making the approach shorter than many other peaks in the area. Several well-marked trails connect this location to neighboring heights and offer various options for walks of different lengths.
The true summit is marked by an arrangement of flat stones that stands out from the surrounding terrain. About 19 meters to the west stands a smaller knoll that is just one centimeter lower and easy to miss.
