Waun Lefrith, Mountain summit in Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom
Waun Lefrith is a mountain summit in the Black Mountain region of Carmarthenshire that rises to 677 meters. This peak forms the westernmost point of the Carmarthen Fans and towers directly above Llyn y Fan Fach lake.
The mountain was shaped during ice ages through glacial erosion that carved out deep valleys and steep faces. This glacial action created the basin where Llyn y Fan Fach lake now sits below the summit.
The mountain slope provides a natural habitat for numerous bird species, including red kites, common buzzards, kestrels, and skylarks nesting in rough pastures.
A path from the car park near Llyn y Fan Fach climbs along the ridge toward the summit. The route is well-marked and provides wide views across the surrounding landscape during the ascent.
Large moraines pile up at the base of the mountain slope, left behind by glaciers during ice ages. These formations consist of Carboniferous sandstones and mudstones that reveal the geological history of the region.
