During the Roman period, the areas surrounding Helm Crag contained evidence of mining and quarrying activities that shaped the local economy.

The mountain's rock formations known as the Lion and the Lamb have generated numerous tales among local residents over generations.

The main hiking path to Helm Crag begins in Grasmere village, covering 6.5 kilometers with an elevation gain of 350 meters.

The summit includes a rock formation called The Howitzer, which proved too challenging for Alfred Wainwright to climb during his documented visits.
