Westfield Stratford City, Shopping complex in Stratford, United Kingdom
Westfield Stratford City is a shopping center in Stratford, an eastern district of London, housing more than 300 shops, restaurants, and leisure facilities across multiple floors. The building covers a large area directly next to the Olympic Park and is accessible through several entrances.
The center opened in September 2011 as part of the urban redevelopment of East London before the 2012 Olympic Games. It was built on the site of the former Stratford Works, an industrial area that had been abandoned for decades.
The shopping center takes its name from the American Westfield Corporation that developed it, while "Stratford City" references the planned urban extension. Many families use the center as a weekend meeting point, with the large dining area overlooking Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park being particularly popular.
Access is possible through Stratford Station, which is served by several Underground lines and regional trains. Inside the building, signage and digital boards help with orientation between the different levels and areas.
The building houses three hotels, a cinema with 20 screens, and the largest bowling facility in Great Britain. This combination makes the place more than a simple shopping destination and attracts visitors for longer stays.
