Concerts at Knebworth House, Music venue in Knebworth, England.
Concerts at Knebworth House is an outdoor venue on the estate grounds in Hertfordshire, England. The lawn areas stretch across several hectares and provide space for stage setups, speaker towers, and large audience sections used during music events.
The estate began hosting concerts for tens of thousands of people in 1974 with performances by the Allman Brothers Band. Within a few years, the location grew into one of the largest rock music venues in the United Kingdom.
The landscape park was redesigned by Sir Edwin Lutyens and forms a natural amphitheater shape that suits large crowds. Bands use the gently sloping lawn as a natural grandstand, allowing spectators from different angles to view the stage.
Visitor facilities include temporary toilet cabins, mobile food and drink stalls, and designated parking areas in the surrounding fields. For large events, organizers open several entrance areas to reduce waiting times at entry.
A recording by Pink Floyd from 1990 was later used for their album Delicate Sound of Thunder. The acoustics of the open landscape contributed to a characteristic sound that differed from typical studio recordings.
