Aberglasney

Aberglasney is a medieval mansion near Llandeilo with stone walls, graceful arches, and ten acres of gardens arranged in multiple walled sections. The property features a tropical glasshouse built within central ruins and an Elizabethan cloister garden alongside a water garden and other distinct planted areas.

The mansion was originally occupied by a single family for ten generations, tracing their ancestry to Elystan Glodrydd, before passing to the Rudd family around 1600. Over subsequent centuries, the estate experienced various periods of use and decline until later restoration efforts brought it back to public access.

The place carries the name of a Welsh poet and functions today as a space where art and nature intersect, with various garden rooms inviting visitors to pause and explore the layered spaces. The setting has become a gathering point for those interested in horticulture and cultural heritage.

The estate sits just off the A40 road between Llandeilo and Carmarthen, making it straightforward to reach by car. The gardens open to visitors year-round except for December 25th, allowing you to plan your visit with ease.

The property preserves six restored brick aviaries that were originally built for ornamental pheasants and later housed hunting dogs. These structures underwent complete renovation in 2004, revealing the estate's working past.
