88 Wood Street, High-tech office skyscraper in City of London, United Kingdom
88 Wood Street is a commercial building in the City of London composed of three blocks of varying heights, reaching eight, fourteen, and eighteen stories. The facades feature triple-glazed glass set within minimalist steel frames that define its modern appearance.
Richard Rogers Partnership, later known as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, completed this structure in 1998 following four years of construction. The building emerged during a period when London was upgrading its financial infrastructure and establishing new office standards.
The bright red, blue, and yellow elements on the exterior stand out sharply against the grey tones typical of London's financial district. These colors are part of the high-tech design that makes the building a recognizable landmark in the area.
The building is equipped with twelve elevators and has two basement levels offering parking for visitors. The site sits centrally in the City of London and is well served by public transportation.
Photocells powered by solar energy on the roof control automated blinds throughout the building to regulate natural light and temperature. This system automatically reduces energy consumption without requiring manual adjustment.
